Christina McKelvie\, Minister for Equalities and Older People at the Scottish Government; Bonnie Evans-Hills\, priest in the Scottish Episcopal Church with considerable experience in inter-religious dialogue and in advocating for asylum seekers/refugees; and Ravinder Kaur Nijjar\, Chair of RfPUK Women of Faith Network\, Sikh Representative on the Scottish Religious Leaders Forum and Vice-Chair of Religions for Peace UK. Listen to these speakers discuss how their various roles help support the Dignity of Women\, women in readership roles\, the challenges faced by women and women in religious scriptures.\n\n \n\nThere will be an opportunity to view the Religions for Peace UK Women of Faith Network’s unique and informative exhibition\, ‘The Dignity of Women – Scriptural Reflections’. DESCRIPTION:Something magical happens at 6.00pm on Christmas Eve at Craigsbank. Families\, friends\, those home for Christmas and those who are simply curious to see what happens\, ALL gather to celebrate Christmas eve with joyful music and carols – and to create ‘Christingles’. \nWhat is a Christingle? As they arrive\, every child will receive an orange\, a ribbon and some sweeties and raisins – and a candle. As the hour goes by\, they will be encouraged to decorate the orange and light the candle\, creating their own Christingles: \n\nThe orange represents the world\nThe ribbon symbolises the love and blood of Christ\nCocktail sticks represent North\, South\, East and West\nThe sweets and raisins represent all of God’s creations\nThe candle is inserted into a small cut at the top of the orange and brings Jesus’ light to the world\, bringing hope in the darkness\n\nThe Christingle can be traced all the way back to 1747 when a bishop in Germany looked for a simply way to explain the happiness brought to the world through Jesus. The Christingle was the result and the word itself comes from the German word\, ‘Christkindl’ or Little Christ Child. It came back into fashion around 50 years ago in Europe and itself now spreads happiness in communities around the world on Christmas Eve. \n  \nDon’t miss out on this joyful event. 6.00pm on Christmas Eve

DESCRIPTION:All children in Scotland should wake up to a gift on Christmas morning. We want to help make that a reality. \nEvery year\, members of the congregation and friends of Craigsbank and East Craigs\, kindly donate gifts for children from birth to mid teens who have a parent in prison in the Edinburgh area. This year the dates for our Gift Service are the first Sunday of December (4) at Craigsbank and the second Sunday of December (11) at East Craigs. \nPlease dig deep once again. We ask for new gifts – toys/books/soft toys for children of all ages from birth to teens to be brought to the church UNWRAPPED. \nJackie Rankine will collect the toys after the services and arrange for our contact person from Saughton Prison to collect them on Monday 12 December. \nPlease contact Jackie or the Church Office with any questions.
