Prayer for Pentecost

May the blessing of the Spirit of fire warm me?

May the blessing of the Spirit of wind energise me?

May the blessing of the Spirit of water refresh me?

May the blessing of the Spirit of the wild goose challenge me?

May the blessing of the Spirit of the dove grant me peace?

Amen.

The Brick

(Michel Quoist)

The bricklayer laid a brick on the bed of cement.

Then, with a precise stroke of his trowel, spread another layer

and, without a by-your-leave, laid on another brick.

The foundations grew visibly,

The building rose, tall and strong, to shelter people.

I thought, Lord, of that poor brick buried in the darkness at the base

of
the big building.

No one sees it, but it accomplishes its task, and the other bricks

need it.

Lord, what difference whether I am on the rooftop or in the foundations

of your building,

as long as I stand faithfully at the right place?

                 This is a prayer about our Journey of Faith.

Setting out our stall,

Laying out the credentials.

Where would we begin?

Is our tale of a slow awakening?

Or of a sudden Epiphany?

Is it a story populated with contemporaries?

Or a solo journey invaded by God?

Was it an expected eventuality?

Or a surprising encounter in the midst of life?

The amazing grace of God

Does not conform to stereotypes

Or even to expectations

But confronts us

In the everyday

Whether we are ready or not.

Confronting us with possibility, even incredibility,

Demanding of us decision,

Compelling us to respond,

Changing us forever,

Claimed by God,

Changed by grace,

Called to share,

Children of God.

                                               Easter Prayer

Forgive us, Lord, when we are afraid to witness
to your risen presence in our world today.
Where we are reluctant, make us resolute;
and where we are daunted, make us daring,
that we would leave behind the tomb of comfort and complacency
and follow you on an Easter adventure.
Amen.

A PRAYER about DISCIPLESHIP

God of all pilgrims and all people,

breathe life into our faith where it is stale;

breathe truth into our understanding where we are mistaken;

breathe colour into our minds where they are in black and white;

breathe reconciliation into our anger where we are estranged;

breathe eternity into our now when we are afraid;

breathe grace into our lives,

that we might be your disciples in your world today.

Amen.
